China Now Bans Installing Windows 8 On Government Computers!!!

Posted by krishna
In a major blow to Microsoft, China has now strictly prohibited the use of Windows 8 operating system on Government run desktops, laptops and tablets in the country. The Chinese government has made it mandatory for officials to go for other options and avoid buying computer equipment that runs on Windows 8. The government has however declined to present an explanation for the same.

The move comes at a time when Microsoft is trying real hard to cement its lost position in the market after its much acclaimed OS Windows XP reached end of life recently. Notably, the government is the largest buyer of computer software in China, therefore the latest decision to ban Windows 8 here is surely a major setback for Microsoft that will have a significant impact on sales.

China is meanwhile in the process of developing a new operating system. The new OS as we are told will be Linux-based, another instance where the world at large is embracing open source technology now more than ever. The country's homegrown version of the Linux Ubuntu OS, aka, Ubuntu Kylin OS is making a milestone of sorts in the country. Kylin has been developed by Canonical in collaboration with the China Software and Integrated Promotions Centre (CSIP), part of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Chinese National University of Defence Technology.
